Welcome to Low Nest Farm

About us: Alison’s grandparents Matt and Maggie Pepper started offering guest accommodation in 1922 passing the farm and business to her parents, Carl and Elsie in 1952. Elsie reluctantly retired from the business at the age of 83 due to ill health. The farm and B&B have now passed to the third and fourth generation who are continuing the family tradition of providing the highest standards of hospitality in a friendly, relaxed environment.

Your current proprietors are Alison and John True. John worked for many years as a design engineer for Rolls Royce in Derby and Alison worked as a nurse for 28 years prior to their ‘retiring’ to the Lake District. They acquired the existing 4 bedroom B&B premises in 2007 and extended this into the adjoining barn during 2008. As we are dog owners ourselves it seems only natural that we should warmly welcome guest dogs into our home.

The canine ‘family’ consists of 5 Weimaraners, Sophie, Billie, Erik, Max and Lucy. We also have an African Grey Parrott named Jasper.

Alison’s niece, Laura, works with us full time and is a highly valued member of our small team.

She has worked in the hospitality industry since leaving school and worked locally as a chef for several years before joining the business in 2007.

Her commitment and contribution was recognised by Cumbria Tourism when she was one of 3 finalists short listed at their annual awards in 2008.

We had to cope without Laura during 2009 as she was on maternity leave. On June 12th she gave birth to a son, Daniel Raistrick and will not be back with us for a while.

We have suggested that she return to part time work early in 2010 and that Daniel should join the team as our 'paper shredder' !!
